The word ‘TCHÊ’

It is heritage from the natives that used to live in the pampas.  In the past, it was a form of respecting a person in a conversation. TCHÊ was used as an informal title meaning ‘friend’ and people were usually called by TCHÊ followed by their names – ‘Tchê Bento’ ‘Tchê Garibaldi’.

Nowadays, in the southern part of Brazil - Rio Grande do Sul, gaúchos generally use the word TCHÊ on its own.
